Leslie Reichert ’s mission is to teach and encourage the art of homekeeping and green cleaning so people can enjoy a good life. “I always love to see the faces of people when I show them what a cut lemon and some salt can really do,” she says.
Reichert, a green cleaning coach and owner of the Back Door, a vacuum and homekeeping store in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, runs the website ShopGreenCleaning and wrote The Joy of Green Cleaning, an essential resource full of tips and recipes for cleaning your home without chemicals. She turned to natural cleaning methods after running a large residential cleaning service—and seeing firsthand what the harsh chemicals in cleaning solutions can do to people’s health. Reichert sees three good reasons to green your cleaning:
For yourself- to protect your body from chemicals it is not designed to process.
For your family- because the chemicals we use in the home stay in the home—and affect our family‘s indoor air quality. Fumes from chemical cleaners can linger in the air for months.
For the Earth- to help the waterways, improve air quality and find sustainable alternatives to petro-based chemicals made from a non-renewable resource.
The Joy of Green Cleaning is packed full of great recipes for making your own cleaners. From the expected—kitchen and bathroom cleaners—to the unexpected—Ugg boot deodorizer and a sheepskin cleaner—the book contains everything you need for a sparkling clean home, naturally. It’s available at The Joy of Green Cleaning or can be downloaded as an e-book.
What an amazing resource that would be to have! I've tried using a lot more natural products as well as white vinegar and lemons for my cleaning and it's made such a huge difference in air quality around here. Effective cleaning + safe for the environment = win win!
ReplyDeleteIn addition to lemon and vinegar toss in a little baking soda and you will be pleasantly surprised by the results on floors. I also use steam carpet cleaning techiques on carpet, it make them look really good.
